Field notes:

preparing for flight
In this photo the balloon has just been filled with helium, and we are tying a clove hitch with the tether line. The clove hitch seals the balloon off, stays tight with pressure, and is easily loosened at the end of the flight.

eyes on the balloon
Here we are during the flight. Jeff is managing the tether while I am keeping an eye on the balloon.

Cartographer notes:

We flew as high as possible, sacrificing resolution for greater geographic extent. There were also clouds and low light from the late afternoon time of the flight.
